155M SFP Series

The 155M SFP series covers four published titles: 155M SFP, 155M BIDI SFP, 155M CWDM SFP and 155M DWDM SFP. All four are listed here at series level. Their names are published, but no performance figures have been published for them on this site, and none are invented here. A name is not a specification, and this site does not treat it as one.

A 155M module serves the low-speed end of optical networking: legacy access networks, SDH and SONET tributaries, industrial links and the many installations where the traffic is modest but the link must be reliable and the fiber plant is already in place. The speed is low by modern standards, and that is precisely why the series still matters. Replacing a working low-speed link with a faster module is not always possible or sensible: the equipment at each end, the fiber plant and the budget may all favour keeping the link at its existing speed, and a 155M module is what that decision calls for.

The variant families inside the series follow the familiar pattern. The standard title serves ordinary duplex links. The bidirectional variant sends and receives over a single fiber strand, which halves the fiber needed. The wavelength-division variants allow several channels to share one fiber, which matters where fiber strands are scarce. Each of those jobs needs its own confirmation, because the variant name alone does not state the wavelength, the reach or the fiber type, and this site does not fill those gaps by assumption.

Buyers sourcing low-speed modules often face a different problem from buyers sourcing current-speed modules: availability. As production shifts to faster formats, low-speed titles become harder to find, and a site that needs one title for a legacy link can spend more time sourcing it than installing it. Stating the title by name, the equipment it will plug into, and the link it will serve during the inquiry is the fastest route to a specific answer.
